So far I have found two books, one that comes well recommended and the other is recommended by the first book. I think both will be helpful in the process.
The first book is called, Hey Whipple, Squeeze This by Luke Sullivan. Luke is a well renowned copywriter and this book is composed of his thoughts on creating ads, what makes them good, what makes them bad, and how to go about making ads. Pretty much everyone I’ve ever talked to in the advertising business has recommended this book. So I plan on listening to them.
The second book I plan on using in my self taught curriculum is How to put your book together and get a job in advertising by Maxine Paetro. Mr. Sullivan of the previous book recommended this for those who were trying to get into the business. I think I would be wise to trust her advice since she used to have the job in the ad agency that hired people. Which means she has seen truckloads of books. And had to get through crap to get to gold.
My curriculum is looking to ad more. Books, blogs, etc. Leave a comment and contribute to my education. Hopefully our combined effort will help me replace someone who makes the ads that you hate and I promise to make the ads that you love… as a personal favor.
